Research in Greater Manchester
Greater Manchester is one of the country’s fastest growing city regions, but it is also a place of significant inequality, with some of the most deprived areas in the country and health outcomes that are worse than the national average. 6.6% of GM residents describe their health as ‘bad’ or ‘very bad’, compared to 5.3% in England as a whole.
Our CRDC covers NHS Trusts and Primary Health Providers across Greater Manchester, providing you with the opportunity to conduct your research across a wide range of communities and demographics, many of whom experience health inequalities.
Greater Manchester thrives on its diversity and is home to communities from around the world. Almost 200 languages are spoken by Greater Manchester residents, and 28.7% of our residents are from Black, Asian or other ethnic minorities.
Whilst the proportion of people aged 65 and over is expected to grow everywhere in the coming decades, the birth rate in Manchester is also rising, signalling an increase in the number of children and young people in the coming years.
Building trust in our communities
We are utilising and building upon existing public and patient involvement, engagement, and participation (PPIE) expertise and networks to draw upon the voices of local people, particularly from communities with lower take-up rates in research studies, to ensure the work of CDRC:GM is inclusive and meets everyone’s needs.
